The Importance of Forgiving Others
On this first Friday of Lent, in remembrance of Jesus' sacrifice on the Cross, let us reflect on the importance of
repentance and forgiveness. Lent is a season of penance and reflection, a time to turn away from sin and seek forgiveness from God and those we have wronged.
In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus teaches us the importance of forgiving others: "For if you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you, but if you do not forgive others their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." (Matthew 6:14-15)
Forgiving those who have hurt us can be challenging, but it is necessary for our spiritual growth and well-being. Forgiveness is not forgetting or excusing the wrong that was done but instead releasing the hold that it has on us and choosing to let go of resentment and bitterness.
"When we forgive, the slave we free is ourselves."
-Edward M. Hallowell
As we enter this Lenten season, let us examine our hearts and ask for the grace to forgive others as God has forgiven us. Let us seek to make amends with those we have wronged and extend mercy and compassion to those in need.
May this Lenten journey be a time of renewal and transformation as we turn away from sin and embrace the love and forgiveness of God.
Shalom for a Holy Lent,
Pastor Brad
